Eureka, CA – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for interior Del Norte and far northeast Humboldt counties, beginning tonight and lasting through Tuesday morning. Gusty east-northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with ridgetop gusts up to 40 mph, combined with low humidity, have created conditions favorable for fire spread.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Eureka, local humidity levels are expected to remain low into the afternoon and overnight, further elevating the fire risk. Fire starts that occur in these conditions could spread rapidly, especially in exposed ridges.

The warning extends to portions of Lake County, where northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected to develop by Monday morning. Poor overnight humidity recovery in these areas will compound fire concerns.

Residents are urged to take precautions, avoid open flames, and be prepared for emergency evacuation orders. The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Tuesday.
