Mobile, Alabama – A sharp temperature drop Monday night could threaten plants and outdoor plumbing across the central Gulf Coast as freezing conditions settle into Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and parts of southeast Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Freeze Warning will take effect at 10 p.m. Monday and remain in place until 9 a.m. Tuesday across a large stretch of the region. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s across inland Alabama and Mississippi, while communities along the Interstate 10 corridor—including Mobile, Daphne, and Spanish Fort—may hover near 32°F.

The warning includes inland counties across south central and southwest Alabama such as Butler, Conecuh, Monroe, Wilcox, Covington, and Crenshaw, along with coastal areas including Mobile and Baldwin counties. The alert also stretches into Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in the Florida Panhandle, affecting cities like Milton, Jay, Crestview, and Molino, and into southeast Mississippi communities such as Waynesboro, Leakesville, and Lucedale.

Agricultural impacts are a primary concern. Forecasters warn that frost and freezing temperatures could damage early spring crops, gardens, and sensitive vegetation if plants are left uncovered overnight.

Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors, cover outdoor vegetation, and protect exposed plumbing before temperatures fall late Monday night. The freeze threat is expected to last through early Tuesday morning, with additional cold weather advisories possible if temperatures trend colder than expected.
