Vilas County, WI – Shoppers and travelers in north-central Wisconsin are facing a wintry mix today as lake effect snow continues through Friday afternoon. Drivers along U.S. Highway 45 should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, with 1 to 2 inches of additional snow expected by the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon for Vilas County, with isolated flurries likely beyond that timeframe. Road conditions are already snow-covered in some areas, making holiday travel hazardous. If you’re heading out, dress in layers and allow extra travel time.

Tonight, temperatures will plummet into the single digits, with wind chills dipping to as low as -10°F to -15°F across central and northern Wisconsin. Make sure to limit time outdoors and wear appropriate winter clothing to prevent frostbite. Residents are also urged to bring pets indoors and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Looking ahead to Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies but frigid temperatures, with highs only reaching the low 20s. Winds from the northwest will make it feel even colder, with gusts up to 23 mph at times. Overnight lows on Saturday will drop to 15°F, keeping conditions bitter.

Sunday offers slightly warmer weather with highs near 32°F, though another chance of flurries arrives by Monday. The five-day outlook suggests more seasonal temperatures early next week but continues to warn of icy conditions and potential for scattered snow showers.
