Green Bay, Wisconsin – A prolonged period of light snow is expected to impact the Green Bay area beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing into Saturday, with accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions at times, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

Forecasters say most of northeastern Wisconsin, including the Green Bay metro, can expect at least 2 inches of snowfall through early Saturday morning. Snow is forecast to begin this afternoon, increase during the evening, and persist intermittently through Friday night.

Snowfall rates are expected to remain light, but the extended duration will allow accumulations to add up. Across north-central Wisconsin, higher totals of 4 inches or more are possible, with the National Weather Service indicating a 60 to 90 percent probability of reaching that amount in northern Vilas County.

In the Green Bay area, snow is expected to peak Thursday evening into late Thursday night, continuing into the Friday morning commute. Forecasters warn that hazardous travel conditions are likely during both the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes, as snow-covered roads and reduced visibility develop.

Forecast maps indicate total snowfall of 2 to 3 inches in and around Green Bay through 6 a.m. Saturday, with locally higher amounts possible if narrow snow bands persist. There is also a chance of freezing drizzle Thursday evening across parts of central and north-central Wisconsin, which could further worsen road conditions.

Temperatures will remain cold enough for snow accumulation throughout the event, and untreated roads may become slick and snow-packed.

The National Weather Service advises travelers to monitor forecast updates, allow extra travel time, and slow down when driving in snowy conditions.

Commuters, delivery drivers, and students in the Green Bay area should plan for extended travel disruptions through Friday as light snow continues.
