Green Bay, WI – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and travel hazards across central and northeast Wisconsin from early Saturday morning through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Green Bay.

According to NWS forecasters, snow will begin spreading into the region from southwest to northeast as early as 8 a.m. Saturday. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected to develop throughout the afternoon and evening, with the most intense period occurring between noon Saturday and midnight Sunday. Travel conditions will deteriorate quickly due to reduced visibility, snow-covered roads, and increasing northwest winds.

Forecast maps show a sharp gradient in snowfall totals. Areas south of a Wausau-to-Washington Island line — including Stevens Point, Waupaca, Oshkosh, Appleton, Green Bay, Two Rivers, and Manitowoc — are expected to see 6–12 inches. Lake enhancement along the Lake Michigan shoreline may push totals even higher, with isolated spots near 12 inches or more. Farther north, areas including Rhinelander, Eagle River, Florence, and Marinette will see 3–6 inches.

Snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour Saturday evening across east-central and northeast Wisconsin. Winds will increase Sunday morning with gusts of 20–30 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow that may further reduce visibility and complicate cleanup efforts.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for much of central and northeast Wisconsin, including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Sturgeon Bay, Menominee, Shawano, and Marathon County. Winter Weather Advisories cover areas farther north.

Snow will gradually taper off from west to east Sunday morning, with breezy northwest winds lingering through the afternoon before diminishing Sunday evening.
