Green Bay, Wisconsin – People with heart conditions in Green Bay are being urged to limit outdoor activity starting at 6 a.m. Friday as wildfire smoke from Canada pushes south, triggering a statewide Air Quality Advisory.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, air quality is expected to deteriorate rapidly Friday as a cold front pulls in thick smoke. Most of the state, including Brown County, will fall into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range (AQI Orange), with the potential for even worse conditions (Red AQI) in some areas.
For Green Bay residents with heart disease, the advisory means a real health risk. Health officials recommend staying indoors with windows closed, using air purifiers, and avoiding strenuous activities outdoors. Symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, or shortness of breath should not be ignored.
Elsewhere across eastern Wisconsin, cities like Appleton, Oshkosh, and Sheboygan may also experience reduced visibility and breathing discomfort, especially Friday afternoon into the night.
The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, and additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen. Visit airquality.wi.gov for live AQI updates.
