Buffalo, NY – Multiple Winter Weather Advisories and localized Warnings are in effect across the Great Lakes and Central/Northern Appalachians today, bringing lake-effect and upslope snow, gusty winds, and slick roads, according to the National Weather Service offices from Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Binghamton, Albany, Baltimore/Washington, Morristown, Blacksburg, and Peachtree City.
Western & Central NY:
Advisories continue for Monroe, Northern Erie, Niagara/Orleans (now through 10 a.m. Wednesday), Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson & Lewis (through 1 p.m. Wednesday) with 2–5” typical, 6–9” in the most persistent bands (greatest on Tug Hill). Brief heavier bursts may hit the Buffalo metro late tonight into early Wednesday. Gusts 30–40 mph will cause blowing snow and poor visibility.
NW Pennsylvania & NE Ohio:
Warren County, PA remains under a Lake Effect Snow Warning through 1 p.m. today (additional 3–6”, gusts to 35 mph). Crawford & Southern Erie, PA and adjacent OH counties (Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, Summit, Portage, Trumbull) have advisories with 1–6” depending on banding; whiteouts possible in peak bands.
Central Appalachians:
Advisories continue for higher terrain of PA (Forest; WV ridges), WV (multiple counties), VA (Tazewell/Bland/Smyth), NC (Ashe, Watauga, Avery, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Haywood, Graham), TN (Johnson, SE Carter, SE Monroe), and north GA through 7 a.m. today in most zones. Additional up to 1–2” (locally higher on ridges) with gusts 35–45 mph may create slick roads and scattered branches down.
Alaska (SE Panhandle):
Haines Highway & Klondike Highway (Skagway/White Pass) under advisories through noon AKST Tuesday for 4–11” and gusts to 35 mph; travel is difficult.
