Grand Junction, CO – A mix of rain, snow, and strong winds will impact western Colorado this weekend, making travel difficult in some areas. A winter storm is expected to bring snowfall accumulations of 3 to 8 inches in the higher elevations, with locally heavier amounts possible. Wind gusts up to 40 mph in valleys and up to 50 mph in the mountains will further complicate conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snow showers will begin early Saturday, with rain mixing in at lower elevations throughout the day. Light snow accumulation is possible in valley areas, but the heaviest snowfall will occur in the mountains. West winds will increase by afternoon, creating reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions on I-70 and mountain passes.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping near freezing, increasing the risk of icy roads. By Sunday, conditions improve slightly, with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. However, another system moves in by Monday night, bringing the chance of rain and snow showers through Tuesday.

Five-Day Forecast:

• Saturday: Snow showers early, then rain/snow mix. High near 52°F. Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

• Sunday: Partly sunny, high near 61°F. Winds calming.

• Monday: Partly sunny, high near 67°F. Showers possible late.

• Tuesday: Rain and snow likely. High near 56°F.

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high near 58°F.

Travelers should use caution, especially in higher elevations, and monitor road conditions.
