Grand Forks, N.D. – A cold front pushing through eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota Saturday afternoon could bring strong thunderstorms, with damaging wind gusts topping 60 mph and pockets of hail up to an inch in diameter.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the greatest storm threat spans from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with isolated severe thunderstorms possible across Grand Forks, Fargo, Devils Lake, and the Red River Valley. Though the tornado risk remains low, wind is the main concern, with gusts capable of downing small limbs and disrupting travel. Quarter-size hail may accompany the strongest cells.

Drivers along I-29 and U.S. Highway 2 should remain alert for sudden storm development. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, monitor alerts from NOAA Weather Radio or local apps, and have a safe shelter plan in place if warnings are issued.

This system marks one of the first widespread severe threats of June for the region. While not widespread, isolated storms could intensify rapidly, especially during peak heating.

More updates are expected if storm chances increase or warnings are issued. Stay weather-aware into Saturday evening.
