GLASGOW, Montana – Northeast Montana is heading into its coldest stretch of the season tonight, with subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chills expected from late evening into early Sunday. Communities along the Hi-Line could see temperatures fall well below zero as Arctic air settles over the region.
According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows will drop into the single digits below zero across towns including Glasgow, Malta, Poplar, Jordan, and Plentywood. Wind chills may range from –5° to –15°, creating conditions that can cause frostbite on exposed skin in a short period of time. Temperatures slowly rebound Sunday but remain cold until a more noticeable warmup arrives on Monday.
Residents should dress in warm, layered clothing and limit time outdoors if possible. Pets should be brought inside, and travelers should keep winter emergency kits in their vehicles in case of delays on rural roads. Cold spots in river valleys and open areas east of Glasgow may see even lower readings early Sunday.
The dangerous cold persists through Sunday morning before temperatures climb back into the teens and 20s. Warmer conditions continue into Tuesday.
