Habersham County, Georgia – Strong thunderstorms moving across Northeast Georgia could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph through 11 a.m. Monday, raising the risk for downed trees and scattered power outages across several mountain and foothill counties.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 64 remains in effect until 11 a.m. Monday for parts of Northeast Georgia, including Elbert, Franklin, Habersham, Hart, Lincoln, Rabun, and Stephens counties.

Storms moving east from the southern Appalachians may intensify as they cross the region, especially in higher terrain near Clayton, Toccoa, and Clarkesville. Brief heavy rainfall and sudden wind bursts could impact travel along U.S. Highway 441, U.S. 23, and stretches of I-85 near the South Carolina border.

Emergency officials warn that saturated ground combined with strong wind gusts could make trees easier to topple. Drivers should remain alert for debris on roadways and sudden reductions in visibility during heavier downpours.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and keep phones charged in case isolated power outages occur. The strongest storms are expected to move east of Northeast Georgia by late morning, though additional watches or warnings could be issued if storms redevelop later Monday.
