Atlanta, Georgia – A line of strong storms could develop north of I-85 this evening, bringing the risk of gusty winds and small hail to parts of northern and central Georgia through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a slight to marginal risk for severe weather remains in effect for areas including Rome, Atlanta, and Blairsville. The potential for widespread severe storms has diminished slightly, but isolated cells could still intensify, especially along and north of the I-85 corridor.

Cities like Toccoa, Gainesville, and parts of metro Atlanta should remain alert into the late evening hours. Winds could gust above 40 mph in stronger storms, and small hail may accompany the heaviest downpours. No tornadoes are expected, but outdoor activities and evening travel could be disrupted.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, keep phones charged in case of outages, and monitor local alerts. Evening commuters should watch for sudden downpours and slick roads, particularly in higher-risk zones west and north of Atlanta.

The storm threat is expected to taper off after midnight, though scattered showers may linger into early Friday morning. Additional updates will be issued if conditions change.
