Georgia Weather Alert: EF-1 Tornado Strikes Muscogee, Bibb, and Twiggs Counties

Columbus, GA – Preliminary survey results from the National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes that struck the region on Sunday afternoon and evening, leaving behind significant damage.

The first tornado, classified as an EF-1, affected Muscogee County between 3:56 and 4:00 p.m. with maximum winds reaching 90 mph. The tornado carved a path 2.62 miles long, with the most intense winds spanning 350 yards. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported from this event.

The second EF-1 tornado impacted both Bibb and Twiggs Counties between 5:45 and 6:03 p.m. It had a slightly longer path, measuring 7.94 miles, and similarly reached wind speeds of 90 mph. The tornado’s width extended to 450 yards, but like the first, there were no injuries or deaths reported.

Both storms were part of a line of severe weather that passed through Georgia on April 6. Local officials are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage. Those in the affected areas are advised to stay informed of any further weather updates and warnings.
