Georgia – A Tornado Watch is in effect for a dozen counties in southwestern Georgia, including Albany and Leesburg, until 5 p.m. CDT Saturday. Severe thunderstorms could bring the risk of tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds to the region throughout the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected counties include Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, and Seminole. The primary threat is expected to be from rotating thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, particularly between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Residents in these counties are urged to monitor weather updates closely and be prepared to take shelter if necessary. The storm system could bring rapid changes, so having a plan to seek shelter and staying tuned to local weather alerts is essential.
In addition to the tornado threat, heavy rainfall and strong winds may also cause localized flooding and downed tree limbs. People should avoid driving through flooded areas and be cautious of fallen debris.
This tornado watch will remain in effect until 5 p.m., and further updates may be issued if the severe weather threat persists.
