Atlanta, Georgia – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across north and central Georgia beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, bringing damaging winds and a chance of lightning through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a cold front will trigger a line of storms that may impact areas from Atlanta to Macon, with wind gusts reaching 60 mph. Storms will arrive in waves through late evening, with the highest likelihood between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for central parts of the state.

The greatest risks include falling trees, power outages, and dangerous driving conditions on I-75, I-85, and other major routes. Isolated thunderstorms may develop ahead of the main front. While the storm threat is categorized as a Level 1 (marginal risk), the intensity of gusts and potential for lightning make evening travel hazardous.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and monitor weather alerts. Emergency officials recommend staying indoors during storms and avoiding flooded roads.

The main threat should move east of Georgia after midnight, but updated watches or warnings remain possible depending on how the storm line evolves.
