Statesboro, Ga. – Drivers across southeast Georgia and parts of southern South Carolina could face dangerously low visibility early Thursday due to patchy dense fog.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, fog has developed across interior southeast Georgia, including Bulloch, Candler, and Jenkins counties, extending into Allendale County, South Carolina. Visibility may drop to ¼ mile or less, especially near rivers, marshes, and other low-lying areas. The fog is expected to persist through at least 9 a.m. EDT.
Communities most affected include Allendale, Statesboro, Millen, Metter, Claxton, and Reidsville, where visibility can change rapidly over short distances. Morning commuters are urged to reduce speed, use low beams, and increase following distance on roads like U.S. Highway 301 and Georgia Route 121.
The dense fog is typical for early June mornings in this region, particularly around water bodies. Drivers should be extra cautious near bridges, creeks, and farmland prone to radiational cooling.
Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures rise and the sun breaks through. Additional weather statements may be issued if fog persists or worsens.
