Atlanta, GA – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for multiple counties in Georgia until midnight EDT tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The affected areas, including Bartow, Cherokee, Floyd, and Hall counties, face a heightened risk for severe weather, including strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify throughout the evening, with the potential for damaging winds and large hail. The watch is in effect for 24 Georgia counties, with the threat continuing until 12:00 a.m. Friday.

Areas such as Cherokee, Forsyth, and Floyd counties may experience the worst of the storms, with winds gusting up to 60 mph and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter. Drivers are advised to use caution on highways and roads, especially in areas with reduced visibility or possible flash flooding.
