Atlanta, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high fire danger warning for all of North and Central Georgia. This warning, in effect from Friday afternoon into the evening, comes amid low relative humidity and dry conditions.
According to the NWS in Peachtree City, relative humidity levels are expected to drop below 25% for four or more hours. Winds from the north-northwest at 5 to 10 mph, combined with extremely dry fuels, are creating a heightened risk for wildfires.
In Northeast Georgia, the NWS in Greenville-Spartanburg issued a similar statement, warning of fire danger in areas like Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart, and Elbert counties. Wind directions are expected to shift to the southwest later this afternoon, further complicating conditions.
Local authorities urge residents to check burn permits before engaging in outdoor burning. Fires can spread rapidly in these conditions, so extra precautions are essential.
Residents are advised to avoid outdoor flames, secure potential ignition sources, and report any signs of fire immediately to local officials.
