Tilton, GA – Minor flooding continues along the Conasauga River at Tilton, with water levels currently above flood stage. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has extended the flood warning until Sunday morning for Murray, Whitfield, and Gordon counties.
According to the NWS, the river reached 19.1 feet at its peak Saturday afternoon, surpassing the 18-foot flood stage. As of 2 a.m. Sunday, the river measured 18.1 feet but is expected to fall below flood stage early this morning and continue dropping to 6.2 feet by Thursday evening.
Flooding has affected woodlands, fields, and pastures along the river upstream and downstream from the Brackett Ridge Road bridge. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution, noting that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
