Atlanta, GA – A winter storm warning has been issued for most of Georgia, with snow and ice expected to create hazardous conditions through Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City announced that up to 3 inches of snow and 1/3 inch of ice could accumulate across central, north, and west Georgia. The warning is in effect from 5 a.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday.
According to meteorologists, areas along the I-20 and I-85 corridors could see significant ice buildup, increasing the risk of power outages and falling tree limbs. Bridges and overpasses are expected to become especially slick, making travel conditions extremely dangerous.
The storm is expected to impact Friday morning and evening commutes across the state. Residents are urged to delay travel if possible. Those who must travel should carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is preparing road crews to treat affected areas, but officials warn that widespread ice and snow could make conditions nearly impassable. The storm could lead to long-lasting power outages in areas where ice accumulates on power lines.
Experts recommend that residents charge devices, gather supplies, and prepare for possible disruptions. For real-time road updates, Georgians can dial 511 or check the GDOT website.
