Atlanta, GA – After a week of unseasonably high temperatures in the 80s, Georgia will see a dramatic 20-degree drop in just 48 hours, with temperatures expected to plunge into the 60s by Monday. This rapid cooldown follows a heatwave that will push Atlanta, Macon, and surrounding areas into near-record highs by Friday.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, Atlanta is forecasted to reach 82°F on Friday, tying a record set in 1940. However, by Monday, temperatures will fall significantly, reaching a much cooler 66°F, signaling a rapid change from the heat. Macon will experience a similar drop, cooling to 72°F after hitting a high of 86°F on Friday.

Residents should prepare for the sudden shift, which could affect weekend plans and early-week commutes. Officials are advising residents to stay hydrated during the heatwave, particularly on Friday and Saturday, when highs will peak, and then prepare for much cooler conditions by Monday morning. Outdoor activities scheduled for Sunday evening and Monday should include extra layers as temperatures drop quickly.
