Atlanta, GA – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for portions of northern Georgia from late Sunday night through Monday morning. Wind chills are expected to drop to near or below zero during this period.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold temperatures will impact areas including Atlanta, Dawsonville, and Gainesville. Residents should prepare for potential hazards, such as frozen pipes and risks to outdoor animals.

To prevent water pipes from freezing, officials recommend wrapping, draining, or allowing them to drip slowly. Pets and livestock unaccustomed to extreme cold should be moved indoors or into insulated shelters.

The extreme cold may pose serious risks to anyone outdoors. Officials advise dressing in warm layers and covering exposed skin. Face masks, gloves, and insulated hats are recommended to prevent frostbite.

The watch begins at 1 a.m. Monday and lasts through 11 a.m. Commuters should expect freezing road conditions and plan accordingly.

Stay updated with weather alerts and take precautions to avoid cold-related emergencies.
