Los Angeles, California – Boaters and maritime crews across Southern California’s coast should expect treacherous conditions from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning as powerful winds and rough seas build offshore.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles, a Small Craft Advisory goes into effect at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a Gale Watch from Saturday afternoon through 9 a.m. Sunday. Winds could reach up to 35 knots with gusts near 40 knots, and seas may climb to 15 feet across key marine zones—from Point Piedras Blancas to San Mateo Point, including Santa Cruz, San Nicolas, and Catalina Islands.

The most intense impacts are expected in the outer waters west of the Channel Islands and along the Santa Barbara coastline. Closer to shore, including between Point Mugu and Dana Point, vessels near Anacapa and Catalina Islands could also face severe chop and hazardous conditions.

Mariners should avoid unnecessary travel during this period. Secure vessels, check moorings, and monitor updated forecasts from the Coastal Waters Forecast (CWFLOX). Conditions could deteriorate rapidly, especially in exposed areas.

The Gale Watch remains active through Sunday morning, and further warnings could be issued if wind speeds intensify.
