Baltimore, MD – A wide-ranging frost advisory will remain in effect across portions of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, prompting warnings for residents to protect sensitive outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Baltimore/Washington and Charleston, temperatures are expected to dip between 33°F and 36°F during early morning hours. The advisory affects key areas including the Baltimore metropolitan region, northern and central Virginia, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.
In Maryland, the advisory covers counties such as Washington, Frederick, Carroll, Montgomery, and Baltimore, including the city of Baltimore. In Virginia, affected areas stretch from Fairfax and Loudoun counties to Culpeper and Albemarle. West Virginia’s advisory zone includes Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties, among others.
Officials urge residents to cover or bring in tender plants and vegetation that could be harmed or killed by frost exposure. Gardeners and farmers are especially advised to take protective steps overnight.
This late-season cold snap follows a period of above-average temperatures across much of the mid-Atlantic. While frost is not unusual in April, forecasters say it’s a reminder of the region’s lingering spring volatility.
