Chipley, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a freeze warning for portions of the Florida Panhandle, effective from midnight Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. This includes Walton and Washington Counties, where sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees are expected.
Residents are urged to take action to protect outdoor plants, pets, and plumbing as temperatures dip overnight. Frost and freeze conditions can damage sensitive vegetation and cause outdoor pipes to burst if not properly insulated.
The cold weather could also pose hazards for drivers on rural roads, especially during the early morning hours when many holiday shoppers and travelers will be out for Black Friday sales. Slick spots and frost on windshields may contribute to travel delays.
The warning will end at 8 a.m. Saturday, but the NWS advises residents to remain vigilant as temperatures may remain low throughout the weekend. Experts recommend setting indoor faucets to drip overnight to prevent freezing in outdoor plumbing and bringing any potted plants indoors.
