Clovis, NM – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday for Curry, Roosevelt, and Chaves counties, as wind chills could drop as low as -10°F overnight.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque, the dangerous wind chills could lead to hypothermia or frostbite for those without adequate protection. Affected cities include Clovis, Portales, and Roswell.
Residents are urged to wear multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and keep pets indoors. Portable heaters should be used safely, and generators or grills should never be used inside due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Officials caution that pipes may freeze, and frosty road conditions could impact travel Friday morning. Warmer temperatures are expected to return by the weekend.
