Davenport, IA – An arctic cold front is sweeping through the Quad Cities, bringing snow showers, powerful winds, and subzero wind chills today. Drivers are urged to prepare for slick roads, poor visibility, and hazardous travel, particularly along Interstates 74 and 80.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered snow showers began this morning and could lead to up to one inch of accumulation. Gusty northwest winds of 30 to 35 mph are expected to create blowing snow, reducing visibility to less than a half-mile at times. Temperatures will drop into the teens by afternoon, with wind chills plummeting to -5°F to 10°F during the day and as low as -15°F overnight.

The coldest air of the season so far is making travel especially treacherous for commuters. Snow-covered roads are already reported on major routes, including I-88 and I-280. Officials advise checking road conditions at 511ia.org in Iowa or gettingaroundillinois.com before heading out.

Thursday’s forecast offers little relief, with highs near 16°F and a 30% chance of afternoon snow. Overnight lows will hover around 12°F, with gusty winds persisting. By Friday, partly sunny skies will bring a slight warm-up to 33°F, though snow and rain are likely again by evening, carrying into Saturday morning.

This arctic chill underscores the importance of winter readiness. Residents should dress warmly, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on local conditions.
