Asheville, NC – Freezing rain and gusty winds are causing hazardous road conditions across western North Carolina. The National Weather Service has extended its Winter Weather Advisory until 1 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters warn of ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch, with wind gusts reaching 30 mph in some areas. Counties affected include Buncombe, Transylvania, Henderson, and portions of Polk and McDowell. Icing on roads, sidewalks, and bridges may make Monday’s commute dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain began early Monday morning and is expected to continue into the afternoon. Residents in cities like Asheville, Hendersonville, and Brevard are urged to exercise caution while traveling. Windy conditions could also cause sporadic power outages, especially in higher elevations.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and to monitor updates from local authorities. Ensure vehicles are equipped with winter supplies and allow extra time for commutes.
