Amarillo, TX – Drivers in the Texas Panhandle are urged to use caution as dense fog continues to impact the region, creating low visibility and slick road conditions. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo, freezing fog could develop overnight, leading to icy patches on roadways and elevated surfaces. These conditions are especially concerning for those traveling along major routes such as Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 287. Motorists should reduce speed, use headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.

Christmas Day will see lingering fog in the morning before clearing into sunny skies with a high near 53°F. However, additional patchy fog is forecast for Thursday morning. Travelers should remain alert for updates as foggy conditions could persist intermittently into the weekend.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to stabilize by Friday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s. Warmer conditions are anticipated Saturday, with temperatures reaching 61°F. Clear skies and mild weather will dominate into early next week, offering a break from hazardous conditions.

Stay informed by checking the latest forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during low-visibility periods.
