Reno, NV – A freezing fog advisory remains in effect for Lassen County through Saturday morning, creating dangerous driving conditions along key roadways, including US-395. The National Weather Service has warned drivers to expect reduced visibility as low as one-quarter mile and icy roadways, especially near Hallelujah Junction and Ravendale.
According to the US National Weather Service, the advisory, active until 11 a.m. PST Saturday, also impacts highways CA-139 and CA-36, including Fredonyer Pass and areas near Susanville. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, reduce speed, and allow extra stopping distance. Those planning to travel through affected areas should check live road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov before departure.
The freezing fog, combined with subfreezing temperatures, poses risks for black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses. The current temperature in Reno is 25°F, with conditions expected to improve by late morning as the fog dissipates.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast predicts sunny skies on Saturday, with highs near 48°F. Sunday will see increasing clouds with temperatures reaching 49°F. The following week features mostly sunny conditions, with highs climbing to the mid-50s by Tuesday.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant when driving in foggy conditions and prepare for frigid mornings over the next several days.
