Sacramento, CA – A freeze warning and cold weather advisory are set to impact Northern California overnight Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to plummet, affecting the Sacramento Valley, foothills, and Sierra Nevada regions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a freeze warning for elevations below 2,000 feet and a cold weather advisory for areas above 6,000 feet. According to the NWS, the freeze warning begins at 10 p.m. Monday and lasts until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Valley and foothill temperatures may dip to 30-36°F, while the Sierra could see lows between 5-15°F.
The advisory warns of frost in lower elevations and potential damage to sensitive plants. Residents should cover plants, ensure pets stay warm, and prepare for icy roads. “Dress appropriately and limit outdoor exposure,” the NWS advised in its statement.
Cold temperatures increase risks for livestock and outdoor animals. Farmers and pet owners are urged to act quickly to protect them.
Temperatures should rise by late Tuesday morning, but cooler-than-usual conditions could persist. For updates, check the NWS website.
