Fort Wayne, IN – Bitterly cold temperatures and lake-effect snow are set to impact northern Indiana through Sunday, creating hazardous road conditions. Areas north of the Michigan border, including sections of I-90, are expected to see reduced visibility and slippery roads.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will persist into the weekend, with scattered accumulations near Lake Michigan and localized drifting. Highs will stay in the 20s, while overnight lows plunge into the teens. Wind chill temperatures will drop below zero, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor activities and travel.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution, especially near major roadways like the Indiana Toll Road (I-90) and I-69. Reduced visibility from blowing snow and icy patches are likely, particularly during the evening and early morning hours.
Saturday will bring sunny skies but little warmth, with highs near 29°F. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, further lowering the wind chill. Sunday will remain mostly sunny, though temperatures will remain well below freezing, with a high of 28°F.
Looking ahead, Monday brings a slight chance of snow showers and a high near 33°F. By midweek, conditions improve slightly, with highs in the mid-30s and partly sunny skies.
Residents are urged to bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Stay updated on weather alerts and road conditions by monitoring local forecasts.
