Miami, FL – A growing wildfire threat across South Florida has prompted a burn ban and heightened fire danger warnings as dry, rainless conditions are expected to persist through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Miami, no measurable rainfall is forecast across South Florida for the next seven days. This extended dry period, combined with low relative humidity values each afternoon, may lead to enhanced fire behavior, particularly across the southwestern portion of the state.

The burn ban currently in effect includes Collier, Hendry, and Glades counties, where dry vegetation and a stagnant airmass are creating ideal wildfire conditions. Officials say the ban will remain active until conditions improve.

Emergency management teams urge residents in affected counties to avoid all outdoor burning, including yard debris, campfires, or use of fire pits. Any ignition source may rapidly spread under current conditions.

Residents are advised to stay alert for emergency alerts and wildfire updates. Fire officials also recommend clearing vegetation near homes and having evacuation plans ready, especially in rural areas.

The elevated risk is expected to last through Sunday, April 21. South Florida typically enters its wet season in late May, making early-season wildfire risks a concern this year.
