Tampa, Florida – Travelers across Florida should brace for a soggy start to Sunday as showers and thunderstorms roll into the Tampa Bay area by 8 a.m. Lightning, heavy rain, and slick roads could complicate morning plans, especially along I-275 and local highways.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s high will climb to around 90°F, with scattered storms lasting into the evening. Winds will increase from the southwest at 6 to 11 mph, and rainfall amounts may exceed half an inch. Localized flooding in poor drainage areas is possible, especially near downtown Tampa and coastal neighborhoods.

Scattered storms will linger into Sunday night, with more widespread thunderstorm activity expected Monday through Tuesday, pushing daily rain chances to 70%. Monday’s high will rise to 91°F, followed by a steamy 93°F on Tuesday. Lightning and downpours could again impact commutes and outdoor activities early in the week. Keep phones charged, avoid flooded roadways, and secure outdoor furniture during heavier bursts of wind or rain.

Summer heat will persist, with only brief clearing by mid-week. Wednesday and Thursday bring more storms and highs in the 92°F range — classic July weather for Tampa.
