Orlando, Florida – Storms could soak Central Florida and disrupt travel along I-4 by Sunday afternoon, marking the region’s first major spring weather alert of May.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms will begin Sunday, continuing into Monday with a second round of storms possible after 2 p.m. Winds could gust from the south up to 15 mph, increasing the risk for brief downpours and hazardous driving on highways like I-4 and the Beachline Expressway (SR 528).

The spring warmth sticks around until then, with Friday and Saturday staying partly to mostly sunny and highs reaching 88°F and 89°F respectively. But the shift begins late Saturday night, when clouds build and scattered storms roll in before dawn. Sunday will start partly sunny before afternoon storms develop.

By Monday night, rain chances taper slightly, but isolated thunderstorms may persist into early Tuesday. Highs stay in the mid-80s with overnight lows around 66°F. Travelers should keep phones charged and avoid flooded roads. Outdoor plans Sunday and Monday may need adjusting.

Here’s a look at the extended five-day spring forecast for Orlando:

  • Friday: Partly sunny, high 88°F
  • Saturday: 40% chance of showers, high 89°F
  • Sunday: Showers/storms likely after 2 p.m., high 85°F
  • Monday: 50% chance of storms, high 82°F
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 82°F
