According to the National Weather Service, a strong round of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 2 p.m. Thursday, with southeast winds up to 13 mph and gusts as high as 22 mph. Rain chances are 80%, and flash flooding is possible in low-lying urban zones, especially near I-95 and downtown Jacksonville.

By Thursday night, storm activity will continue through at least 8 p.m. before gradually tapering off. Drivers should expect brief road ponding during the evening commute. New rainfall totals could reach up to an inch in some locations, with isolated higher amounts in thunderstorms.

The heat will be intense through Thursday, with daytime highs near 91°F and heat indices exceeding 100°F. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak sun, and keep pets indoors. Local cooling shelters may be activated if needed.
