Orlando, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms and strong winds are expected across East Central Florida this afternoon, with peak storm activity through 9 p.m. Thursday bringing risks of lightning, heavy rain, and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, storm chances range from 30% to 70% this evening, especially across the I-4 corridor, including Orlando, Leesburg, and Daytona Beach. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is likely. Temperatures will stay seasonably hot, with highs from the upper 80s to low 90s and heat index values hitting 96° to 101°F. Central Florida Atlantic beaches also face a Moderate Risk of rip currents today, prompting safety warnings for swimmers.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and beachgoers are urged to swim only near lifeguards. Keep mobile devices charged and stay indoors during lightning.

Storm threats diminish late tonight, but more rain is possible Friday. Updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
