Miami, FL – Spring beachgoers in South Florida should brace for hazardous conditions Sunday as rip currents and wildfire smoke continue to impact coastal areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a high risk of rip currents remains in effect through at least Monday morning for the Palm Beaches, with moderate risks along Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier County beaches. Officials urge swimmers to stay out of the water, especially near piers and jetties. The most affected areas include popular beach zones along A1A and coastal access points from Deerfield Beach to Ocean Reef.
Smoke from active wildfires is also expected to reduce visibility in far southern Miami-Dade and Mainland Monroe Counties. This could impact roadways such as U.S. 1 and Old Cutler Road, especially during early morning hours. Drivers are urged to use headlights and reduce speed in smoke-prone areas.
Looking ahead, South Florida’s spring weather remains warm and mostly dry. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with highs near 76°F. Winds from the southeast may reach up to 10 mph. Monday brings clearer skies and a high of 80°F, though rip current risks will likely persist.
Tuesday and Wednesday feature a slight chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. By Thursday and Friday, conditions are expected to improve, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s.
Beachgoers should check local advisories before heading out and swim near lifeguard-protected areas if entering the water.
