Miami, Florida – Travelers across South Florida should brace for downpours and potential flooding as thunderstorms slam into the Miami metro area Tuesday, June 3rd.
According to the National Weather Service, a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms is expected between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday. Rainfall rates could top 1 to 2 inches per hour, especially along U.S. Route 1, with localized street flooding possible in low-lying areas. Gusts may reach up to 18 mph by the afternoon.
Thunderstorms could begin as early as late Tuesday morning and linger into the evening, with a continued 90% chance of rain Tuesday night. Winds from the southeast will increase to 11–13 mph, and lightning risk will remain elevated.
Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel during peak afternoon storms, keep flashlights and chargers ready, and secure outdoor items. Visibility may also be reduced due to haze from Canadian wildfire smoke drifting into the region.
Rain continues through midweek, with another 80% chance of storms Wednesday. While the worst is expected Tuesday, scattered thunderstorms may return Thursday and Friday, keeping travel risks in play.
Warnings remain in effect through late Wednesday, and further alerts may be issued.
