Tampa Bay, Florida – Severe thunderstorms are expected to affect west central and southwest Florida this afternoon and evening, with a Marginal Risk (1/5) in place for much of the region. According to the National Weather Service, the primary threat will be large hail and damaging wind gusts, which could lead to hazardous conditions for drivers and those outdoors.

The warning is in effect through the evening, with gusty winds reaching up to 50 mph and hail possible in some areas. This severe weather could disrupt travel and outdoor plans, especially across cities like Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota. Areas of higher terrain inland, such as Lakeland, may also experience stronger wind gusts.

Residents are urged to stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. If you’re in a vulnerable location, consider staying indoors during the worst of the storms. Be cautious on the roads as high winds could make travel dangerous, especially for high-profile vehicles.

As the storms move out of the region tonight, it’s expected that the Marginal Risk will decrease, but further advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updates.
