Orlando, Florida – Thunderstorms could drench much of east-central Florida this afternoon, bringing localized flooding, strong winds, and dangerous lightning to cities along the I-4 corridor through 8 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, widespread storms are expected to develop between 2 and 8 p.m., with a 70–90% chance of rain across the region. Isolated rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches are possible near Orlando, Sanford, and Daytona Beach, especially in areas with poor drainage.

The heaviest impacts are expected near the I-4 corridor, where storms may cause minor flooding in urban neighborhoods. Frequent lightning and gusts up to 45 mph could disrupt outdoor events and beachgoers. A moderate risk of rip currents is also in effect along Atlantic beaches from Melbourne to Vero Beach.

Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and monitor for rapidly changing weather. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure loose items outdoors, and delay travel until storms pass.

Showers may taper off overnight, but additional storms are possible Sunday. Weather alerts remain in effect throughout the evening.
