Tampa, FL – Unseasonably cold weather persists across Tampa Bay, with lows tonight dropping to the upper 30s and frost expected in several inland areas. Residents are urged to protect exposed pipes and bring pets indoors as temperatures remain well below average.
According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday night’s low will reach 39°F in Tampa and dip to the freezing mark in northern areas like Brooksville and Crystal River. With clear skies forecasted overnight, frost formation is likely in outlying communities. A high of 59°F is expected Thursday, with wind chills making it feel several degrees cooler during the morning hours.
Drivers commuting early Thursday along I-75 and I-4 should allow extra time to defrost vehicles and navigate potentially icy bridges. The National Weather Service has also extended a rip current advisory for coastal areas, warning swimmers to avoid entering the water through Wednesday morning.
Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend begins Friday, with highs nearing 72°F and overnight lows staying above 50°F. Rain chances will increase Saturday, with a 40% likelihood of showers during the day and gusty winds on tap for the evening hours. Sunshine will return Sunday, offering a high of 63°F.
Plan accordingly for the colder-than-usual temperatures and take precautions to stay safe both on the roads and at home. For beachgoers, rip currents remain a danger, so heed local advisories before entering the water.
