Miami, FL – Drivers across parts of South Florida are being urged to use extra caution early Sunday morning due to a possible patchy dense fog event.

According to the National Weather Service Miami, there is a 20% chance of dense fog forming between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday in areas near Lake Okeechobee and regions affected by the ongoing #344Fire wildfires. Visibility could drop below one-quarter mile in some locations, posing potential hazards to morning travelers.

The advisory includes Palm Beach, Hendry, and Glades counties, as well as southern portions of Miami-Dade County. The weather service emphasized that while the risk is categorized as minor, drivers should still anticipate potentially limited visibility and allow for additional travel time.

Officials note that fog in wildfire zones may contain particulates that worsen air quality and visibility. Though not guaranteed, the fog’s presence could create rapidly changing conditions that catch drivers off guard.

Motorists are encouraged to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and maintain safe distances if fog develops. Weather services will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
