Miami, Florida – Drivers across South Florida could face dangerous flooding late Monday as rounds of heavy rain target areas south of I-75, with the greatest risk focused on Miami-Dade and mainland Monroe counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, rainfall totals between 1 to 3 inches are expected today, with isolated pockets near Homestead and Miami possibly reaching 5 inches through Wednesday. The heaviest rainfall is forecast to arrive late Monday afternoon and continue into the evening, with additional rounds likely Tuesday.
Flooding concerns are highest for low-lying neighborhoods and urban areas already saturated from previous storms. East coast metros from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale are also under a slight risk for localized flash flooding, especially during repeated downpours.
Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways, monitor alerts, and prepare for potential road closures. Charging phones, clearing storm drains, and avoiding unnecessary travel are recommended as conditions worsen.
More rain is expected through midweek, with a 50% chance of exceeding 4 inches across southern counties. NWS warns that additional watches or warnings may be issued depending on storm development and localized flooding.
