Orlando, Florida – Strong afternoon storms are expected to impact Central Florida from Orlando to Daytona Beach Wednesday, bringing gusty winds and torrential rain just in time for the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, storms will move east-northeast across the region through early evening, with the highest coverage from Orlando to Titusville and northward. Affected counties include Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and northern Brevard. Isolated thunderstorms are possible farther south, including around Melbourne and Vero Beach.

Winds may gust between 45 and 55 mph, with a small chance (up to 5%) of isolated wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. The storms will also bring frequent lightning and heavy downpours, potentially leading to minor flooding in low-lying areas or roads with poor drainage. The tornado risk remains very low, though coastal areas could see brief rotation.

Drivers along I-4 and U.S. Route 1 should use caution, especially around Sanford and Titusville during the peak storm window. Residents are advised to stay indoors during lightning and secure any loose outdoor items.

Storm coverage is expected to taper off by late evening, but more unsettled weather could return later this week. Stay updated through local alerts.
