Tallahassee, Fla. – Scattered thunderstorms and sweltering heat will remain a threat across Florida’s Big Bend and South Georgia through Sunday evening, bringing frequent lightning and steamy conditions just after the holiday.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the highest chances for afternoon and evening storms will focus on Florida’s inland counties and along the I-75 corridor of South Georgia. Rain chances peak Saturday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., with some locations like Perry and Cross City seeing precipitation probabilities as high as 70%.
Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s and low 90s across the region, with cities like Tallahassee, Valdosta, and Bainbridge reaching 91°F or higher by Saturday afternoon. Combined with humidity, heat index values could feel even warmer. Storms may produce dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, so residents are urged to move indoors when thunder is heard.
In Cross City, rain chances jump from 15% Saturday morning to 70% by mid-afternoon. Panama City and Apalachicola face a 50% chance of evening storms Saturday, followed by more widespread activity on Sunday. Localized downpours may impact travel, especially on U.S. 98 and I-10.
Storm chances remain elevated through Sunday night. Additional advisories may be issued.
