Melbourne, FL – Visitors to east-central Florida beaches are urged to stay out of the water this weekend due to hazardous surf conditions. A high risk of life-threatening rip currents is in effect, with a Coastal Flood Advisory active until Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), winds of 5-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, are combining with strong Atlantic swells, creating dangerous water conditions. Minor coastal flooding is possible during high tides, especially in areas near I-95. A Small Craft Advisory is also in place, warning mariners of seas reaching up to 9 feet.

Sunday’s weather in Melbourne will be mostly sunny, with highs near 79 degrees and moderate northeast winds. Surf conditions will remain risky through the weekend, with high tide cycles compounding flood risks for beachgoers. Early next week, temperatures will rise into the low 80s, with clear skies and calmer conditions expected by Tuesday.

Looking ahead, a slight chance of showers is forecast for Tuesday night, with a 50% rain chance by Wednesday. Winds will shift to the south midweek, increasing to 15-20 mph. Boaters and beachgoers are advised to stay updated on changing conditions.

Residents should heed local warnings and avoid swimming or entering the surf until conditions improve. For mariners, officials recommend avoiding open waters during the advisory period.
