Tallahassee, Florida – Flash flooding could rapidly develop across the Florida Panhandle through Monday morning as repeated rounds of heavy rain bring totals up to 10 inches in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Flood Watch remains in effect for much of the region, including Panama City, Marianna, Tallahassee, and Apalachicola. A Level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall is in place Saturday and Sunday, with locally heavy downpours expected each day and night. Rainfall rates will intensify over saturated ground, increasing the likelihood of flash flooding.

Urban areas and poor drainage zones are especially vulnerable. Key highways like I-10 and U.S. Route 98 could see water ponding or closures, particularly in Bay, Gulf, and Liberty counties. Emergency managers urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads and follow the rule: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Weekend storms could also produce isolated wind gusts, hail, or a brief tornado. The combination of severe weather and prolonged rain will challenge both travel and outdoor plans.

The Flood Watch extends through early Monday, and more advisories may follow. Residents should monitor alerts and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
