Tallahassee, Florida – A tornado can’t be ruled out across the Florida Panhandle this afternoon as a line of severe thunderstorms pushes through the region, bringing isolated damaging winds and hail up to the size of a quarter.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in effect Friday for Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Big Bend. The greatest tornado threat appears centered on the Panhandle, with storms expected to intensify between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET.

Cities like Panama City, Marianna, and Tallahassee could see strong winds and periods of heavy rainfall that may lead to localized flooding. Storms will be capable of producing isolated tornadoes, especially in areas with unstable air and wind shear ahead of the cold front.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware throughout the day, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and avoid travel during periods of lightning or strong winds. Secure outdoor items and prepare for potential power outages.

While storms may weaken overnight, more rain is expected through the weekend, increasing the risk of flash flooding by Sunday across much of the region.
