Tallahassee, FL – Strong winds and critically low humidity are setting the stage for rapid wildfire spread across the Florida Panhandle and south Georgia by Tuesday afternoon, prompting a Fire Weather Watch.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee and Jacksonville, northeast winds will increase to 15 to 20 mph with gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph Tuesday, while relative humidity drops as low as 22 to 28 percent. These conditions will peak between late morning and early evening, creating an environment where any fire could spread quickly.
Impacted areas include Tallahassee, Panama City, and surrounding counties in the eastern Florida Panhandle, along with Albany, Tifton, Valdosta, and multiple inland communities across southwest and southeast Georgia. In southeast Georgia, the highest risk window is expected between noon and 8 p.m., especially west of U.S. 301.
Dry vegetation combined with gusty winds means fires could become difficult to control. Officials strongly advise against outdoor burning and urge residents to secure equipment that could spark flames.
A Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions worsen. Residents should stay alert and monitor updates through Tuesday evening as fire risks remains elevated.
